Sponsor Run/Walk - 10th June 2008

A total of 19 people attended the Fun/Run Walk on what was a pleasantly warm evening from start to finish.

The runners set off at 6.30pm and the Stop Watch Marshalls and Refreshments Supervisors, were informed that the runners had started, stop watches and water supplies were put into place ready for the eager runners. Our Safety Marshall/Charity Steward assisted our two 50 plus members who at the last minute decided to do the run route and came in at a joint first, well done Avril Corbett & Mai Porter, unfortuneately we do not have a cup for this category.

The star of the evening with the highest score was Taylor Payne who completed the run with much determination and will power and even managed to leave her mark at the finish line at the folly. Unfortuneately one of our Centre Members said they would double Taylors Sponsor money if she completed the run in first place, looks like we have a poor retired Gwent Centre Member out there?

The walkers set off at the same time as the runners, and made their spritely journey along the canal bank and even managed to do the walk in just over half an hour.

Before setting off Bel rang through to the Open Hearth Pub to place the Chips order.

Everyone reached the final destination injury free and eager to have their chips and a well earned beverage.

The whole evening ended at approximately 8.30pm.

Runners/Walkers now the hard task starts - get your sponsor monies in ready for our eager Treasurer to get his fingers on.

The Local Sea Cadets. (H.M.S.KITTYWAKE) We gave a £100 cheque as a donation in 2006 out of Charity Funds. We were very impressed with the work that they are doing to help keep young people off the streets, especially as we discovered they receive no official funds and have to rely on their own initiative to raise funds to carry on. The Committee therefore decided to support them this by supporting them in 2007

A donation of £1000 was made at our Christmas Social

The local Air Ambulance - We made a donation of £100 to this Charity
